This is a blog about us Honeys. We've been married for 6 years, live in Littleton, CO, have a Chihuahua named Dobby, a Rat Terrier named Scarlett, three awesome cats (all referred to as our Furry Kids!) and some fish.
In November 2007 I was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer of the liver) and nave been undergoing chemotherapy since December '07 & Proton Radiation Therapy at M.D. Anderson in Houston, TX from December '08 - February '09, and then back on eternal chemo until we get the tumor to shrink away from one salvageable vein in the liver so that it can be surgically removed. We use this blog to keep family and friends updated on our struggles, loves, challenges, celebrations, goals, ideas and the general daily grind!

Finding Peace

I've found a pocket of peace in my life recently and today I am relishing in it.
An important relationship has been repaired and, as a result (I think) strengthened, even.
My Gardening Club/Crew spent most of Saturday cleaning out, prepping, planting and watering the new vegetables and last year's iris bulbs in our garden. We are expecting a lot of red, green, and yellow peppers as well as a wide variety of various-sized tomatoes (read: prepare yourselves for receiving tomatoes from us on a weekly basis!). It's nice to just sit on the back porch and watch them quietly grow. If I look away even once, I think they jump a few centimeters taller than before!
The lilac bush has two small but lovely blooms on it already.
Merlyn, Ariel, and Nala are all thrilled that the catnip plants survived the winter and are already sharing their wealth with them!
Scarlett and Dobby enjoy chasing the gazillion bunny rabbits in our backyard - and I suspect the rabbits enjoy the exercise because they refuse to take cover when Pete or I try to warn them that the dogs are coming outside and headed their way!
There are probably 100 different types of song birds behind our house. I have a book that helps me visually identify them. What I really need is a book or audio recording that helps me audiotorially identify them. Does such a thing even exist?
Our house is relatively clean. My motorcycle is finally and happily parked in the garage, waiting for a few spare moments for me to ride it alongside Pete!
Our refridgerator is just about overflowing with meals that many of you have recently brought over. It's awesome to not have to fret about what to cook for dinner every night of the week.
The fish aquarium is clear and not quite as covered in algae as it was last week.

I haven't been able to write much yet this week. My brain is a little turned off at the moment. That's okay. It will return soon enough.

So despite the aches, pains, throbs, and general "ickyness" my body is enduring this week, I do feel at peace with all of this and where I am in it. This will still take some time but I'm doing all that I can to help my body accept the chemotherapy and use it to its fullest potential in order to shrink that damn intruder enough for Dr. Curley to cut it right out!

Today I have patience.

Today I have peace. :)

What a lovely posting, Abbey!! Made me feel peaceful and patient myself, just imagining your backyard full of growing things and bunnies and birds. ('Course, the bunnies are going to eat some of your growing things, but that's okay, too).

My husband is a low-key bird-watcher, so I've picked up a very small amount of birding knowledge. At the Wild Bird Center in Boulder some years ago I bought a really good software program called "Thayer Birding Software's Birds of North America, Users' Guide." (http://www.birding.com.) My version's old enough that it wanted Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT. But it's a great program, and has bird sounds/calls as well as pictures. If you haven't found other resources by the next time I see you, I'll check at the Wild Bird Center here and see if they have newer versions. I'd love to gift you with the software. It's also very possible that Cornell University (a very big authority in terms of birds) has audios you can download to an i-Pod.

I'm going to amend my daily prayers for you to include the wish for the continued presence of that lovely peace and patience. And know that we continue to pray for you every week at EfM Thursday evenings and at church every Sunday morning.
